Are you planning a psychedelic journey with Ketamine? If so, will you have a therapist or guide who will sit with you during the journey and is the place where you are planning this experience able to provide you with a safe, comfortable and supportive environment? This is part of what is referred to as “set and setting.” In order for you to have an optimal healing experience, the location and/or environment need to feel safe. Another component of “set and setting” includes having one (or more) people who are trained and experienced in providing and/or guiding the psychedelic experience for you. A third component is the preparation that you engage in with your therapist or guide prior to the psychedelic journey. This also can involve identifying music that will be played to help you during the journey. The preparation involves one or more sessions where you identify your goals and/or intentions for the psychedelic experience. It is also important to identify any expectations you might have. The final component is referred to as integration, meeting with the guide or therapist very soon after the journey to process the experience so that you can “integrate” what you discovered or learned during the journey. While each of these components are important, integration can make the difference between a successful outcome and/or what is often referred to as a difficulty journey. For you to gain the most out of your Ketamine experience, I recommend having at least two sessions after the journey, to optimize integration.
Right now in 2026, what is legal is having a psychedelic experience with Ketamine. Hopefully in the not-too-distant future, both MDMA and psilocybin will be approved by the FDA and become legally available. I can refer you to a licensed provider who can prescribe and administer the Ketamine. And I am experienced in providing the preparation and integration (components of set and setting) for a Ketamine journey, as well as being a guide during the journey. Ketamine has had success in treating depression that has not responded to traditional anti-depressant medications, and success in treating trauma and PTSD.
